I joined Medicine Lake Fire Rescue in
2001 at the age of 19. I completed FireFighter 1 and became
Minnesota State Certified in April of 2002. Since then I
have risen to the rank of Lieutenant and been responsible for
everything from radios to the building of our new tanker truck..
Because
of the fun I was having and the lack of calls at Medicine Lake I
joined Plymouth Fire in early 2003. Through training, Duty
Crew, and public education, I have learned a lot that has helped me
grow. I took FireFighter 2 and was given the opportunity to
become an Emergency Medical Technician through Maple Grove Fire
Department's in-house classes. I have been a Nationally
Registered EMT-Basic since July
2004.

Thanks to friends made in the EMT-B course, I began assisting with
and eventually became an official advisor for the Maple Grove Fire
Department Explorers program in early 2005. This has been a
wonderful experience for me (and hopefully for everyone else
involved!) and I hope to be able to continue doing it for a long
time.
I
have been lucky enough to take part in a program called
Opportunities in Emergency Care, a high school program designed to
introduce high school students to the EMS world and can even lead to
certification as first responders & EMTs. Again, courtesy of
EMT classmates, I am have been able to be a part of the process for
these students which has been very, very fun.
